Introduction to the Course of Architecture and Building Engineering
This department was founded in April 1965 as a parent organization of the Department of Architecture of the Faculty of Engineering, firstly, the Master's Program was established in April 1971, then, the Doctoral Program was established in April 1990. The graduates of each program are playing a leading role in society.
Architecture is an activity for creating spaces, forms, and environments that move people emotionally while supporting various human activities to take place easily, safely, and comfortably. Functions (how spaces or things are used), various technologies, and esthetics are coordinated and tweaked to find the right balance for optimal integration into the design. In the realization, it especially should recognize " the role and contribution of architecture to the formation of a high-quality and sustainable social environment" and strive to realize it.
With this objective in mind, this department strives to maintain an appropriate curriculum and management system, with the educational policy of the Master's Program being " cultivation of engineers and professionals who can immediately participate in problems requiring advanced knowledge". The educational content is broadly classified into six divisions: "Building and Urban Disaster Prevention Engineering, Building Structure Design Engineering, Building and Urban Culture, Building and Urban Design, Building Environment Planning, and Building and Urban Environment Equipment".
Several of the professors who preside over our department's laboratories have established engineering-related venture companies and run atelier-type design offices, allowing students to come into contact with research, development, and design activities on a practical basis with a social background.
We believe that having learning opportunities close at hand that is equivalent to corporate internships is a great advantage in the future of graduate education, where practical education will become more important.
