Special Features
Features of the Graduate School
The Graduate School of Engineering was established on the basis of the six departments and one program of the Faculty of Engineering of Kanagawa University, and consists of two majors: the Department of Engineering, which consists of seven fields: mechanical engineering, electrical, electronic and information engineering, applied chemistry, information systems, management engineering, applied physics, and biofunctional engineering, and the Department of Architecture. In addition to deepening mutual cooperation, we actively participate in domestic and international academic conferences, and are always aware of the latest research. We accept not only undergraduates, but also students from other universities and business people from outside the university. In addition, we have introduced an early registration system for undergraduates who wish to enter graduate school and a long-term registration system for working adults. We also have a doctoral program for business people to work on their doctoral dissertations, and have produced many doctoral dissertations.
Collaboration with outside the university and external evaluation
Through active exchange with many research institutes, other universities, and companies, we have achieved many results, and we boast one of the largest number of patents in Japan. In addition, we actively apply for advanced academic research projects and have received support from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), such as the "Support Project for the Formation of a Strategic Research Foundation for Private Universities. Every year, the Graduate School of Engineering and the Faculty of Engineering collaborate to hold the "Kanagawa University Techno Festa" to exchange research results with many companies and information between companies and current students. In addition, not only do we focus on collaborative research between industry, government, and academia, but we also engage in a wide range of activities that contribute to the local community, such as events for citizens.
Guidance and Support System
In a word, our graduate school is a home away from home. Graduate students are assigned to each laboratory in a well-balanced manner, and their supervisors provide detailed guidance. In order to foster an independent research attitude, we encourage students to make at least two research presentations at domestic academic conferences in the first semester. In addition, students are encouraged to participate in internships and TA activities. Through internships and TA activities, students are encouraged to improve their leadership skills and stir up stirrups to advance their careers. In the second semester of the program, the main focus is on presentations at international conferences and in overseas journals, so we are eager to provide friendly research guidance. We have an exchange program with Denmark, China, and other countries, and every year we send or accept ambitious students.
Career after graduation
Career paths after graduation
Students who have completed the first semester of the program are working as engineers, researchers, and developers in various fields of industry. Students who have completed the second semester of the program have gone on to become university faculty members or professional researchers at research institutions, and some of them have been involved in joint research with the Graduate School through their home institutions. In addition to supporting job-hunting activities between current students and many companies through social publicity activities such as the Kanagawa University Techno Festa, we also provide support through the department in charge of job-hunting within the university, as well as the Graduate School's own job-hunting support. Each department appoints a faculty member in charge and provides thorough career guidance while responding individually to the requests of graduate students and companies.
