The Field of Bio and Life Engineering provides education and research on life phenomena and biological functions. The subjects of research in this field include, for example, biomolecules such as nucleic acids, proteins and lipids, and useful materials such as pharmaceuticals, foods, cosmetics and fragrances. This field also covers the research of living things such as humans, animals, plants and microorganisms. The research theme is the functions and phenomena brought about by these substances and organisms, such as biological activity, genes, enzymes, metabolism, signal transduction and physiology. Students will study and practice extensively, from basic research such as elucidating mechanisms to applied research leading to product development and manufacturing.
